History
We have exciting plans for the next six years and have drawn up a series of projects, both using our own resources and with support from City of York Council, Yorkshire Forward, Heritage Lottery Funding, Arts Council England, trusts and foundations and local businesses. Please get in touch if you would like to help us.
Yorkshire Museum and Gardens
We plan to improve the Yorkshire Museum in a £5 million project. Plans include refurbishing galleries, creating new science and archaeology exhibitions, improving access, creating a new shop and cafe and opening up the museum library.
Our next plan is to increase visitors' enjoyment and understanding of the Museum Gardens and the buildings within them, by providing more information, organising events and creating new pathways.
We are also improving our conference centre in the Hospitium in the Museum Gardens. Plans include installing new stairs, toilets and a lift, and providing electronic services for audio visual equipment.
York Art Gallery
We plan to develop York Art Gallery by creating a contemporary mezzanine gallery above the main gallery and a new galleries in an area currently used for storage.
York Castle Museum
Our plans for York Castle Museum over the next six years include creating a new 1960s experience, an 18th century prison experience, kitchen, sewing room and armoury workrooms for learning activities, and a lift to the first floor.
York St Mary's
We plan to continue to commission site-specific installations for York St Mary's.
