If you find an archaeological object
We are fortunate to have staff from the national Portable Antiquities Scheme at the Yorkshire Museum who can identify archaeological finds.
The scheme was set up in 1997 to record information about finds made by members of the public, many of whom are metal detector users. In return, the public get expert help in identifying their finds.
By recording finds, these experts are producing new views of the past, and are starting to see Medieval, Roman and even Prehistoric England and Wales emerging in a way that was previously unimaginable. The scheme has staff based around the country and holds regular events.
If you think you have found something interesting, contact Liz Andrews-Wilson at the Yorkshire Museum, on 01904 687668, or email liz.andrews-wilson@ymt.org.uk
Alternatively, go along to one of the regular Finds Days held in the North and East Yorkshire region.
